Meet Fran, Your Fasting Supervisor

Hello friend, I'm Fran Turk, founder of Paradise Wellness Center, a healing & retreat sanctuary on the ocean in Costa Rica.

There was a time when my body felt heavy, my energy low, and my spirit disconnected. I knew I was meant to feel more alive — more clear, more vibrant, more in tune with myself and nature.

That inner calling led me to try my first water fast. It wasn’t easy, but it changed everything.

Through multiple extended fasts, I began to witness not only physical healing, but emotional clarity and spiritual awakening.

I experienced firsthand the profound intelligence of the body — how, when given the chance, it knows exactly how to heal itself.

This transformation sparked a deep passion in me. I studied natural health and became a certified Naturopath Coach, dedicating myself to understanding the science and soul of fasting.

Over the years, I’ve guided many people through their own water fasting journeys — always with care, safety, and deep respect for each person’s process.


Today, at Paradise Wellness Center, it is my honor to hold space for others as they come home to themselves — through fasting, raw living foods, nature, and the privilege of being right in front of the ocean.

What is fasting?

Fasting means voluntarily choosing not to eat. We get out of the body's way in order to give our system a chance to remove stored toxins, accelerate the healing process, and balance all our functions. A fast is a good reset and is the quickest way to make your body efficient again.

How CAN YOU BENEFIT FROM fasting?

All living beings have the ability to heal themselves, but they need the right conditions for that to happen. Water fasting is this superior method which creates the right conditions for the body to regain balance and recover from sickness. Fasting offers the ideal environment for healing, making it beneficial for nearly everyone, regardless of their condition, to attain a much greater state of health and energy.

What happens when I fast?

When you don't need to digest, absorb, or eliminate food, your body saves a lot of energy it uses every day. By taking it easy and cutting down on unneeded mental and physical tasks, you save even more energy. All this energy can then be used by the body to cleanse, purify and heal.

As the body starts this cleansing process, you might face a range of symptoms (sometimes called a "healing crisis") that could be just about any kind. These symptoms show that the body is getting rid of different toxins, and they stop when the body is clean.

Will i have symptoms while i fast?

Most individuals will experience certain symptoms, with the majority primarily feeling tired or weak. Almost everyone will go through a drop in blood pressure, which could lead to dizziness upon rapid standing. Typically, body temperature decreases, though occasional episodes of fever might also occur. Moreover, many people will observe a coating forming on their tongue due to increased bodily elimination processes. Your specific health condition may result in one or several other symptoms. It's worth mentioning that while a few may feel unwell throughout the entire duration, the majority will generally feel fairly well during most of the fasting period, and some will even feel fantastic.

CAN ANYONE WATER fast?

Certain individuals should avoid fasting due to their conditions. This includes pregnant or breastfeeding women, those severely underweight or malnourished, and individuals taking specific medications. However, the vast majority of people can experience significant advantages from fasting correctly and in appropriate circumstances. Once we receive your registration form, we can address your personal situation.

How can I ensure your safety and well-being while you're fasting?

You can measure your blood pressure, pulse, & temperature, and I can read it on a daily basis. We will observe any visible indicators, and have daily discussions about what you're feeling on all levels. Additionally, if you have a smart scale, we can assess your weight, muscle mass, fat mass, and hydration level. Your safety is my priority.

What SHOULD I do WHILE fasting?

I advise my clients to prioritize rest as much as possible, as the body benefits most when given ample rest. You don't want to spend your sacred energy that should be used for healing and cleansing.

If you wish, you can read a book, engage in writing, appreciate nature, engage in artistic activities, take leisurely walks, practice gentle stretches, play simple games, reflect on your emotions. I always recommend that you do as little as you feel comfortable with, and encourage you to view your fasting period as an opportunity for deep rest. Then you'll have your entire life to do things.

How long should My fast BE?

Each circumstance is distinct. What is absolutely true is that each passing day becomes progressively more beneficial. For most individuals, a fasting duration of 3 to 4 weeks appears to offer the optimal balance of maximum benefits in the shortest span of time.

What takes place during the "recovery" period?

The body rebuilds with rest, so resting is still a priority once you start the re-feeding process. I encourage exercise only when the body has recovered some and is ready for it. This typically happens around 5 days after starting to eat again, depending on how long the fasting period was. Physical movement should be slowly ramped up.

How will I break my fast?

You'll break it with the lightest and easiest food to digest on the planet, whole, fresh and ripe fruit. Your digestive system has been shut down for 2, 3 or 4 weeks and suddenly it is going to receive food, so we want to be as gentle as possible. Your re-feeding process is also guided by me.
